Is it Thanksgiving yet?

I just love Thanksgiving. It’s the one day of the year that you can eat anything and everything carte blanche (even crudite) and not feel guilty. Halloween was just a short time ago and the guilt of Christmas & New Year’s eating won’t be setting in for at least another month. And turkey isn’t fattening – I guess it’s all the other stuff that is.

Thanksgiving is a time for friends and family. We won’t have any family in town this year but we will be spending the holiday in good company. Our friends Todd & Barb, Jim & Kathy and Jake will be coming over to hang out and watch football on our newly upgraded HDTV. I am certain our favorite game Catch Phrase will also make an appearance and the fun will likely be magnified by the amount of beer and wine we consume.

If you know anything about me, you know I avoid lines and crowds whenever I can, hence the lack of desire to shop on Black Friday. I estimate that 90% of my Christmas shopping is done online. My favorite sites for this are:

  • Amazon.com – with a $25 purchase you can get free shipping, but plan ahead because it can take up to 10 business days. They partner with other big-box retailers like Target, Toys-R-Us and Old Navy so if you can’t find it here, there’s something wrong with you.
  • Overstock.com – $1 shipping over the holidays but even their regular shipping fees are under $3. Just be careful you aren’t buying anything factory reconditioned without knowing it.
  • BestBuy.com – Purchase online and pick up at the store’s service desk later that day.

Football update: Justin’s Demons lost their first game of the season bringing their record to 3-1-1. Eric’s Scorpions also lost and their record is now 1-4. Needless to say, it was an ugly football weekend.
